Barcelona trading Arthur might make him miss the remaining CL draws.

Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo might sign a new contract with Juventus this week, raising the question of whether he will be allowed to continue at Barca beyond June 30th.

More from Everything Barca

The Brazilian international is currently having his medical check-up that would lead to him signing a new five-year contract that would bind him to the Italian club. This can be an issue for the Catalans as the player must officially be considered a Juventus player from June 30th onwards, while the current Champions League campaign restarts in August.

Arthur’s negotiation with the Serie A side will decide when his last day in a Barcelona shirt would be. In a normal negotiation, a player usually remains with his current side until the end of the season, but the current campaign is anything but normal with respect to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On top of that, the latest comment by Barca boss, Quique Setien, has upset Arthur to a point that he no longer desires to wear a Barca shirt. Sport via Calciomercato reports that the Brazilian international does not desire to continue with the Catalans after Setien’s comments.

“He’s not the first player who signed with expectations that didn’t bear fruit,” Setien’s words that have pushed Arthur to choose Juve. If the former Gremio star does decide to miss the Champions League fixtures for Barca, Miralem Pjanic could be the man to take over Arthur’s spot in the European championship.

To better understand the situation, Arthur’s transfer could be compared to that of Timo Werner, where the striker has secured a move to Premier League side, Chelsea, resulting in him missing all remaining CL matches with Leipzig.
