Manchester City’s starlet is up for contract renewal but wants Barcelona.

Manchester City’s defender, Eric Garcia, has been an important part of Pep Guardiola‘s squad and despite his recent serious injury, the youngster was chosen to play against Liverpool the minute he was given the green light to play. This shows that the former Barcelona coach has immense faith in Garcia and deems him to be an important part of his plans.

Barca, meanwhile, have been equally keen on signing their former youngster as they have identified him as the perfect replacement for 33-year-old Gerard Pique. As Eric is a graduate of the famous Blaugrana academy, La Masia, he clearly knows the Barca philosophy which has been deeply engraved in his style.

The 19-year-old has made a name for himself in the Premier League as one of the most promising defenders in the League with many monitoring the player’s situation carefully as his current contract expires next year. Diario Sport’s Guillem Balague in his youtube video states that he has received the news of Garcia desiring a move to Camp Nou.

He continues by saying the Premier League side are aware of his wishes and are looking to make a sale for this summer as they do not want to lose him for free next year once his contract expires. Barca and Garcia have already reached an agreement among themselves and whats pending is the official approval of the Etihad side. This contradicts early reports from The Sun, who stated the player wished to continue with City.

While Guillem remains a more reliable source, City’s coach Pep Guardiola is confident that the talented youngster will sign a contract renewal.

"“If they [Barca] want him they must call Txiki, We are going to try to convince him to stay here for many, many, many years.I’m confident he will stay but at the end of the day it’s his decision. He knows we want him.” Pep said after his squad defeated Newcastle 5-0 on Wednesday.Source Goal"

While the Spanish coach remains confident, it all comes down to the player himself as with an expiring contract, it will be Garcia’s decision. City have already lost a talented star in Leroy Sane, who had the choice to leave for his desired club as he also had an expiring contract, which forced City to sell the midfielder instead of losing him for free.

"“But it is similar to Leroy [Sane]. We wanted him but he didn’t want to stay and we cannot do anything else. He knows, his agent knows, and his family knows that we want him. He’s young and if Barca want him, they have to call Txiki” Guardiola concluded."

Eric must decide for his future as the Premier League side are currently facing a two-year Champions League ban while Barca are offering a permanent spot in their back four for many more years to come as Pique nears retirement.
