Juventus look to hijack major Barcelona transfer target

Barcelona deal for Sergino Dest in trouble as Juventus enter the bid race

Barcelona have been in the market for a full-back to up their defensive strategies and replace Nelson Semedo who is linked with an exit this season. The 26-year-old has been looking for a change after failed contract renewal talks and Barca have been hoping to secure the Ajax youngster to fill his position.

Sergino Dest has had an impressive season which has caught the attention of the La Liga giants, with Barca leading the race. However, now with Juventus contacting the 19-year-old player’s agent for a potential signing, Barca could be in big trouble.

The Spanish giants are ever so close to losing Semedo to a number of possible suitors, with Manchester City emerging as the favorites. Pep Guardiola’s squad recently underwent a grueling time but came back with no ban as well as a massive, offensive, restructuring plan involving a defensive right-back. Nelson Semedo would be an easy grab at 40 million euros.

Similarly, for the Italian side, they would love to have Dest in their ranks with his promising style of playing, involving both pace and defensive capabilities. The American International has a contract until 2022, and for a price of roughly 30 million euros, he could be a great addition to the squad.

Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, will surely have to use an impressive strategy to secure Dest with Juventus on the hunt. Although Ajax CEO, Edwin van der Saar, doesn’t wish for Dest’s exit but with so many giants interested in the teenager, it seems highly unlikely he’ll stay there past this season.

Things could tip either way at this point, with the player taking about his ambitions and desire to play alongside big names like Neymar, Messi, and Ronaldo.

If the Blaugrana do manage to win this race, Dest could solve many problems at the club for years to come as he has the awareness and skill to replace Semedo and also, Jordi Alba if required.
