Free-agent, Edinson Cavani, has offered himself to Barcelona.

Edinson Cavani who is currently a free agent has reportedly contacted Barcelona throughout the summer of 2020 for a move to the Nou Camp according to Sport. The center forward left Parc des Princes after scoring 7 goals in all of the 2019/20 season and had reached an agreement with Portuguese club Benfica but the deal failed to reach the final stages.

Currently, both parties can profit from a deal like this as Barcelona are looking for reinforcements. According to multiple reports, the Uruguayan has offered himself to the Catalan giants twice in recent weeks knowing that they are in need of a striker and that he can be the one to fill that void.

As Ronald Koeman does not plan to involve Cavani’s fellow Uruguayan Luis Suarez in his plans this season, the board at the Nou Camp were actually considered this offer. However, they gave up on the striker almost immediately as he did not seem to be a priority for the Dutch coach, who preferred to sign Memphis Depay instead.

The former Napoli center-forward was aware of the Catalan’s requirements of signing a new striker and offered himself to the La Liga giants for two years.

Barca, however, were keen on Lautaro Martinez as he still remains a top priority, but that deal does not seem possible for this summer. The profitable part of this deal would be that the club would land Edinson Cavani for free as he is a free agent as of now, thus ensuring the club receives a quality reinforcement.

Cavani was heavily linked to league rivals Atletico Madrid too, over the last few months, but reports suggest the deal fell through. If Barcelona were to sign the 33-year-old, fans will not be happy as the club will be making the same mistakes they have been making under president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, and that is to sign aging footballers as short term solution.
