Barcelona to tally all the votes against the president, Josep Bartomeu

It looks like Barcelona’s internal problems are far from over. Recently, voting for a motion of no confidence took place to get rid of Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The president had been under pressure for a few months now, with the last straw being the 8-2 humbling at the hands of Bayern Munich leading to the fiasco with Lionel Messi’s transfer.

According to the club, 20,687 signatures were submitted and for the motion to go through at least 16,520 the equivalent of 15% of all the members are required. The results of the vote will be formally announced in a few weeks after verification of all the signatures.

The club has stated that they will check through every vote rigorously and that they have the right to dismiss any ballot papers that are not sufficiently accredited and that they may make whatever inquiries necessary in order to ascertain their authenticity.

The already-under-fire President took a very strong stance on Messi‘s exit stating he would not be allowed to leave as his contract date has passed. This made him, in the eyes of many, the number one villain at the Nou Camp. The fans protested against Bartomeu’s treatment of their club legend and many wanted to see that man out of the club.

The 57-year-old Boss did call for an election in March after their UEFA Champions League, ever since things have been downhill for him and he may be impeached should the number of votes against him reach the 15% mark.

This is, however, not the only controversy that the club is facing. Former manager, Quique Setien, has decided to take legal actions against the club due to the manner in which he was let go and as such he will be demanding the whole sum of payment he was due to receive.

Things are looking quite bleak for the Spanish giants at the moment and everyone hopes that the Catalans will be able to come out of this internal turmoil and go back to being one of the European elites again.
