Manchester City could look to secure Kylian Mbappe over Lionel Messi
Manchester City could prioritize Kylian Mbappe over Lionel Messi.
According to ex-Manchester City star, Danny Mills, the possibility of Kylian Mbappe going to Manchester seems more possible than Lionel Messi rejoining Pep Guardiola at Etihad. The Argentine forward was involved in a heated transfer drama when he officially submitted a request to Barcelona stating that he wanted to leave the Catalan side. After weeks of speculation and rumors, it looked like things would have been settled in court, however, Messi decided against taking his boyhood side to the justice system and in an exclusive interview with GOAL, stated that he would be remaining in Spain for at least one more year.

Thus after the end of the whole saga, it looked like Pep Guardiola missed out on reuniting with Messi, however, they still have not given up on signing a world-class player and according to Mills, the French superstar could be a much better fit than Messi. The ex-Citizen in an interview with GENTINGBET said,
"“I don’t think Messi was ever realistically a possibility for Man City to sign…He is absolutely sensational. When you see him live, he’s even better than when you watch him on the television. But there is a case of where would Man City have fit him in?”“Of course, he is Messi so you fit him in no matter what but how does he fit into Man City system? Does he play instead of [Sergio] Aguero, does he play in the No 10 role behind Aguero? Or do you play out wide instead of Raheem Sterling or whoever else that might be? Does it disrupt the balance of the team?”Source Goal."
He also went on to say that Mbappe would be a better fit for the club as he could play in the number 9 position, replacing the underperforming Gabriel Jesus. The Paris Saint-Germain player is tipped to leave the French side after failing to extend his contract. His contract ends next year and two clubs from the Premier League, Manchester City and Liverpool will be trying to get his signature. Clubs outside England such as Barcelona and Real Madrid are also likely candidates for his services. One thing is for sure that he will be changing clubs very soon and Ronald Koeman should be ready to pick him up fast among all the competition.
While many European elites battle it out for the signature of the World Cup winner, Messi’s future could potentially be at the Nou Camp especially with the president, Josep Maria Bartomeu’s tenure coming to an end. While a new president will be elected, a new Sporting Director and a coach like Xavi Hernandez could convince the legend to remain at the club.
Should Barca compete City and Real Madrid for Mbappe?
