Lionel Messi has been requested to join PSG by Neymar.
Barcelona has not been the same ever since Neymar left them for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017. The Brazilian was stuck in the shadows of his teammate, Lionel Messi and understandably wanted to be the star of another club as winning the Ballon d’Or was his final goal. However, neither Messi nor Neymar could reach the same heights that they did in 2016 and now the PSG star has confirmed that he would love to play with Messi next season.

After Thursday’s match in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester United, Neymar gave a very exciting answer when asked about the Messi situation. He said in the post-match interview,
"“What I want most of all is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy him once again on the pitch,”“He can play in my place, I have no problem with that! But I want to play with him next year, for sure. We have to do it next season.”Source ESPN"
This clearly shows Neymar’s wishes to reunite with his former teammate for whom he still holds a special place in his heart. This is not the first time, however, that their reunion has been rumored. Since the last couple of years, Barcelona has been linked with the Brazilian winger and it was speculated that the Catalans would have tried to sign him back this year as well but then the pandemic completely ruined their financial goals.
There is no chance of Barcelona signing Neymar as they can no longer afford him but there is still a chance of their reunion in the French capital. The Argentine legend has been wanting to move away from Spain ever since their disastrous exit from the Champions League last season. Although Manchester City looks like the most likely club where Messi might go, PSG might also be a surprise contender for one of the world’s best players.
When Thomas Tuchel was asked whether he would like Messi in his club, the German replied by saying,
"“who wouldn’t like Messi in their club ?” The possibility is definitely there as PSG are one of the few clubs that can actually afford the Argentine’s wages."
Barcelona will try their best to persuade Messi into staying but it might be a task too great for them. Now with their financial crisis and wage cuts, there is no reason for Messi to stay back apart from his love for the club. The new president must give a good future planning to Messi and his agent in order for the 33-year-old to consider staying back at the club.
