Martin Braithwaite has a vital role to play with Barcelona.

Martin Braithwaite has been absolutely phenomenal for Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona this season. The Danish international was brought into the Nou Camp last winter and he was termed as a flop.

More from Everything Barca

Irregular starts and inconsistent performances gave Braithwaite absolutely no time to prove himself to today’s modern reactionary crowd. However, he looks to have come around this season.

The 29-year-old forward has been absolutely on top of his game for the Blaugrana in this year’s champions league campaign.

He won a penalty and scored a goal in Barcelona’s latest win against Ferencvaros. In total, the player has scored 4 goals, won one penalty, provided one assist, and covered a lot of time on the pitch so far in this year’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

The Dane was considered a flop since his arrival at the Nou Camp. He was also heavily ridiculed for inheriting the number 9 Jersey. famously worn by former elite strikers Luis Suarez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldo, Patrick Kluivert, and many more.  The Uruguayan international was sold to Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in order to free up his massive wages.

After all the struggles, the 29-year-old looks to have finally come around and made an impact in a Barcelona shirt. The Blaugrana failed to land a potential center-forward as a replacement for club veteran Suarez but it looks like Braithwaite can do the job perfectly. The Catalans had Memphis Depay as one of their main targets for the summer but due to financial conditions, they could not land the former Manchester United forward.

The La Liga giants were looking to land a replacement for their former no. 9 in the January transfer window too but it now looks like that Martin can be the perfect solution for the Catalans. Reports also suggest that the Catalans have cooled their interest in Olympic Lyon’s Memphis Depay and will not be looking to land the forward in the January or summer transfer window of 2020. They have made signing a defender their utmost priority and might move in for Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia or Atletico Madrid defender Felipe Augusto.

Should Barca rely on Braithwaite or sign a new striker in January?
