PSG chief opens up about Lionel Messi’s future after Barcelona.

Exactly three months back the whole world was rocked by Messi’s ultimate desire to leave Barcelona and that particular piece of news broke the internet for obvious reasons.

More from FC Barcelona News

Having spent almost his entire playing career at Camp Nou, Messi made up his mind to leave Barcelona following a barren season and years of disappointment post Neymar’s departure. PSG chief Al-Khelaifi has had his say on Messi’s future and denied any potential links claiming that he had no say, given that the Argentine is a Barcelona player, as per Goal.

A couple of days back Neymar starred in the 3-1 win over Manchester United and right after the final whistle was blown, he disclosed that his desire is to play with Messi once again and it “must happen next year”. This bit of statement cannot be taken as a note of sarcasm as there have been heavy links tying Messi to PSG and Neymar with a return to his former club in Barcelona. However, it is only fair to say that Messi to PSG looks more likely that than the latter returning to Camp Nou.

The financial struggles of the former La Liga champions this year are well known and one cannot expect them to shell out huge sums of money anytime soon.

The Argentine is yet to sign a contract extension at Camp Nou and should he decide against it, he will be able to walk out as a free agent at the end of this season. So far, nothing has been said about his future though there is a slight chance that the 33-year-old would like to finish off his career in front of the Barcelona fans.

Out of the MSN trio that won the Blaugrana the treble in 2015, Messi is the lone survivor with Luis Suarez and Neymar’s exits who left the club in 2020 and 2017 respectively.

It is the ultimate desire of every Barcelona fan to see Messi win again and no better way to do it than with one of his closest friends and allies. Only time will tell if Messi decides to stay or to leave but as an ardent Barcelona fan, I’d personally like to see him finish off his career in front of the infamous Camp Nou crowd.
