The 40-year-old, now retired midfielder is widely known as the best player to have ever graced Spain. He alongside Andres Iniesta, created a link-up so deadly that it was almost impossible to defend against Barcelona. Alongside Messi and Neymar, Hernandez helped Barca become the undisputed kings of Europe and his lack of presence has since been noticed in the club.
The Catalans were largely successful due to their midfield which was led by Hernandez. After his exit in 2015, Barca were never able to reach those heights again. This just shows us how much he impacted the team and why he deserved to be on the dream team.
Hernandez was put in the dream team midfield alongside the two footballing gods, Diego Maradona and Pele, and German legend, Lothar Matthaus. The Spaniard and the German take up the defensive roles while the Brazilian and the Argentine take up the attacking roles.
His teammate, Andres Iniesta was also nominated for this historic award. It is safe to say that during his reign, the Catalans were close to invincibles. His vision, leadership skills, and incredible footwork, alongside his brilliant teammates, helped Barcelona create history. This is probably the reason as to why Messi wants him back at the club as the manager.
Hernandez has been linked with head coach position at Camp Nou for months now and Messi believes that only his former teammate can save the club from their inevitable demise. Presidential-elect, Victor Font, also believes in the same ideology and might very well replace the already distraught Koeman should he be elected. No doubt, it will be very exciting to see Xavi back at the club.
