Barcelona could be looking to sign Arsenal defender.

Multiple sources from Europe are now suggesting that Barcelona will be moving in on another centre-back in the January transfer window of 2021. The Blaugrana are reportedly looking at Arsenal centre-back, Shkodran Mustafi for a shock move as the reports suggest. The Gunners are looking to offload the German as a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates and it looks like the Catalans are interested.

Barcelona’s main defensive target for January has clearly been Manchester City youngster Eric Garcia who was formerly a part of the La Masia academy of Barcelona. However, the Manchester City man was developed and trained at the City Football Academy. The reports now suggest that the Catalans want Garcia alongside the Arsenal man.

Mustafi won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and earned his big hype move to North London in 2016. However, he cannot be termed as a successful signing as he has in no way helped the Gunners’ defense look solid.

While the German has talent and abilities, his errors often lead to goals. He is often found in bad positioning while failing to stop counter-attacks and having weak aerial ability which are just not at par with the big names of the Premier League like Liverpool‘s Virgil van Dijk or Manchester United‘s Harry Maguire. The 28-year-old has been under constant criticism by the Arsenal fans since his arrival in 2016.

It looks like the German has failed to impress the Gunners heavily and a move away as of now would be a good career move. If Barcelona do land Mustafi, it will give him a fresh start at a fresh league where he can work towards building his name up again getting his top form back like he had during the 2014 world cup. The defender has helped Arsenal multiple times in multiple ways but he has not been anywhere near world-class since his arrival in North London.
