Barcelona presidential hopeful talks about Neymar’s return.

Barcelona are going to hold their Presidential election on the 24th of January. So far there have been many candidates with different philosophies and strategies to win the votes of the people.

Some have focused on the on-field performance, some on the economic status of the club and some on the new stadium. However, Jordi Farre has decided to build his campaign around bringing in new quality players, one in particular.

Farre has a rather unconventional strategy when it comes to the elections. His main talking point is getting Neymar back from Paris Saint-Germain.

While the Brazilian had been linked with a move back to the Catalan side several times, looking at Barcelona’s current financial situation, a move back seems to be out of the question.

Still, the presidential candidate seems adamant to push the narrative that he can bring back Neymar to the club. His plan is to bring only top quality players to the club, who will be chosen by the Sporting Director. In his speech he said,

"“During our meetings, we have said that there are only a few players with Barca level in the world and Neymar is one of those.”Source Sport"

He went on to say that his team has spoken to a lot of potential players and Neymar is among those they have spoken to. He is confident that he can bring in few of the players in January as he said,

"“Information came out saying that we have spoken and yes, we have spoken with many people because we have to prepare a project. January 25 comes and there will be four days of the window left. We spoke with a lot of players and with Neymar too.”"

The candidate then talks about the economical position that Barcelona is in. In the current financial state, the club can barely afford Eric Garcia but Farre looks at the deal as a sort of an investment. He knows the sacrifices the club would have to make to bring in Neymar but the return in having such a player at the club is very big. He said,

"“In the end it will be very cheap. If you have to sell Barca, if you have to relaunch the brand Barca, it’s not the same as going to sale with a top player like him as without him. When you pay for a player of this type it’s not an expense but an investment, and you have to invest to grow and with Neymar it’s no different. These type of players come out very cheap.”"

Coming back to reality, however, the Brazilian will likely not come back to Barcelona in the foreseeable future. The club is in 500 million euros debt thus it makes no sense to increase the wage budget. Even if Neymar comes for free in 2022, the weekly wage would be too high for the club to secure the player. This seems to be just a PR tactic and an empty promise.
