The 33-year-old had been left on the sidelines in the match against Eibar but is looking to get back into action on Monday’s match against Huesca. Ronald Koeman in a press conference revealed that the Barcelona captain had trained on the 30th and 31st of December while the rest of the squad took a rest. It looks like Messi is ready to restart the season and give a fight for the La Liga title.
Koeman said that Messi was hurt in the ankles, that’s why he was left out of the match against Eibar. They went on to draw that match, which further hurt their title chances. The Argentine is however ready for the match against Huesca. Koeman said in the press conference,
"“Leo is fine, he was training the 30th and 31st while the rest of the squad was resting. No doubts for him, he has great fitness and is happy and really excited and that is important for us.”Source Goal"
Although Messi is ready to give his one hundred percent to the club this season, it might still not be enough to get back into the title race. The Spanish giants are already more than 10 points behind league leader, Atletico Madrid and it will be a very uphill battle for them. They have a very difficult tie in the UEFA Champions League as well, where they will face off against Paris Saint-Germain and newly appointed manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
Things can go from bad to worse for the Catalans should Messi decide to leave the club in July. Not only will they be losing their best player, but they will also be losing him for free. The money that Messi could have generated in a sale could have helped the club’s financial situation but the manager and fans are still hoping that the new president can persuade the veteran legend into staying beyond this season.
