#5 Life after Messi

As we can see, there are quite a few issues that Barcelona must fix but the one thing they must brace themselves for is the exit of Lionel Messi. While it’s not sure whether the captain will leave the club after the season ends, it will certainly be on every fan’s mind.

The new president will try his best to keep the legendary forward at Barcelona but should he decide to leave, after all, there will be a huge hole in the heart of the club. Ansu Fati is the one who is being tipped by pundits to become Messi’s successor but it is unfair to dump so much pressure on the 18-year-old.

The Catalans must accept that Messi will leave one day or the other, even if it is not at the end of this season and they must be prepared to face that day. The club must go on even if the player is no longer with them and they must strive to become the best in Europe once again.

The only issue is that the squad have become over-reliant on the maestro and often struggle without him on the field. A classic example was the recent clash against Real Sociedad, where forwards like Braithwaite and Griezmann had no major contribution and young players like Frenkie de Jong, Dembele, Riqui Puig, had to take over.

Koeman should give more time to youngsters as in the long run, these are the players that will have to take over the heavy lifting in the future.
