Xavi’s return to Barcelona will convince Lionel Messi to stay claims Font
Xavi’s return should convince Lionel Messi to stay says Font.
As presidential elections come closer, it is getting evidently clear that Joan Laporta is leading the pack. With Victor Font the only other candidate, close to Laporta in popularity, he must find a way to win the elections and stop Laporta’s second run as president of Barcelona. In an attempt to spark some more interest, Font has once again talked about his plan to replace Ronald Koeman with Xavi Hernandez, if not that then still get Xavi into the club in some other role.

The main reason for trying to bring in the Barcelona legend is because of another club legend, one that is still playing. Lionel Messi of course is the most talked-about name in world football right now, as everyone is speculating where the Argentine will head off to next season.
Barcelona fans of course are in panic and would want the new president to provide a brilliant future plan to Lionel Messi which would make him stay and thus Font is trying to bring in Xavi as he believes that is the only way to convince the 33-year-old to stay beyond the current season.
In a recent interview with Mundo Deportivo, the presidential candidate explained his relationship with Xavi and how bringing in the ex-Barcelona player could help out the club a lot. He says that there is a strong relationship between Xavi and Messi and this is one of the reasons as to why Messi will love their projects. Everyone wants to see Messi end his career at his boyhood club and for Font, that is a mission only one man can achieve. He said in the interview,
"“Messi has explained it, he ideally wants to stay here and finish his sports career at Barca. We have a winning, competitive project, with people like Xavi. This relationship between Xavi and Messi exists, I believe that is one of the main reasons and guarantees that Messi will feel very comfortable with our project and we will have many options to continue.”Source Goal"
He continued to speak on the relationship between Xavi and the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, saying that he knows for a fact that Messi talks a lot with his ex-teammate. While he does not know the content of their conversations, one can only imagine that the Argentine must be talking about his future. Messi wanted Xavi as the head coach of Barcelona and if Font manages to bring him into the club, even as a technical director, it might just convince the legend to stay.
However, as of now, there are no confirmations, and clubs such as Paris-Saint-Germain and Manchester City, continue to prowl around the player, hoping to swoop him up if he decides to not extend his contract.
Will bringing Xavi be able to convince Messi to stay?
