Barcelona are not in a financial state to afford any new players at the moment so they have been banking on players who are in the last year of their contract so they can bring them in for free, next season. One player who could really help out their defense is Juan Bernat and he is still yet to sign an extension with Paris Saint-Germain.

More from Everything Barca

Bernat who has been the French side’s main left-back ever since he arrived from Bayern Munich in 2018 is reaching the end of his contract in June of this year. He has been a faithful player for PSG and has already appeared in 76 games so far. However, with his injury in September, leaving him out of PSG’s plans till at least March, many have wondered whether he will be offered a new contract by the club.

With the French giants still trying to negotiate with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr, they might not have enough left to offer Bernat and Barca are hoping to swoop him up. Bernat will be a great replacement for the aging Jordi Alba.

The Catalans need to replace him and Firpo is certainly not doing the job. Bernat on the other hand has immense experience playing in the top side and he has also played in the La Liga before, for Valencia.

Some other free players that the Catalans are trying to get their hands on next season are Eric Garcia, Gini Wijnaldum, and Memphis Depay. Add 27-year-old Bernat to the list and the Catalans could have a stellar team next season.
