One of the players who have really succeeded under the guidance of the new manager, Ronald Koeman, and that is young defender Ronald Araujo. The 21-year-old centre-back has played a huge part in Barcelona after the injury of the veteran defender, Gerard Pique.

However, after all of his hard work and progress, he might miss his biggest match yet, the one against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

The 21-year-old has made some big statements this season, and has already made 20 appearances in all competitions. He has been a bit lucky to get his breakthrough season as if Barcelona had signed Eric Garcia, he would probably still be in the B team.

However, all his good work could not save him from his injury which will now most probably prevent him from taking part in the match on the 17th of February.

He got injured 11 minutes into the match against Real Betis. The Catalans managed to come out of the fixture with three points after a tough battle. Although the club won 3-2, Araujo was probably not celebrating as doctors revealed that the player had a sprained ankle.

Barcelona’s statement regarding Ronald Araujo

The club made a statement on the injury saying,

"“The tests taken this morning have confirmed Ronald Araujo has an ankle sprain in his left ankle,”Source Sport"

The player was also missing during midweek practice. The squad was having a practice session to prepare themselves for the match against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey but Araujo had to skip that. The Catalans will face Sevilla in the cup match on Tuesday and will have yet another match on Sunday. It is a busy week for the Blaugrana and they will miss the security that Araujo brought into the team. He will most probably be replaced by Samuel Umtiti or Oscar Mingueza.
