Barcelona suffered another humiliating Champions League defeat.

For one reason or another, Barcelona managers seem to be given a lot of rope. It used to be that the club stuck with their coach until it was absolutely necessary. Ernesto Valverde being the prime example.

Valverde survived a 3-0 against Roma and a 4-0 against Liverpool in the Champions League. They stuck with him far longer than they should have. That unofficial policy seems to have changed. Quique Setien, who took over from Valverde, was fired after the 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich.

With no board to make such a decision, following the 4-1 loss to PSG, it was put to Ronald Koeman whether he had considered leaving Barcelona given this result and the disappointing season so far.

"“If I was someone who gets happy when we win and then after a result like today said I had no desire to continue, that would be crazy,” Koeman said post match.“I know where I am and what we have to change. We’re trying. We’re not at the end of the path yet, we’re halfway down it.”Source: ESPN"

Barca may not be at the end of the path when it comes to rebuilding but Koeman might be.

The Catalans are well on their way to another trophyless season unless they can turn around the loss to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey. Not many managers can survive that.

While there have been some improvements since Koeman took over, he’s been unable to prepare Barcelona for the big occasions. In every important match this season, they’ve come up short.

In his defense, he is not the only one to blame. He asked the club for signings because he knew they were deficient in certain areas. With no board, those signings were impossible. Against PSG, the backline, in particular, was once again exposed.

Had there been a president in place after the old board was kicked out, the Dutchman might have already been let go considering the run of results during the first half of this season.

None of the presidential candidates have flat out stated Koeman would be their manager if elected. Victor Font already has Xavi in his mind as the replacement.

Looking over at the opposition sideline, stood Mauricio Pochettino who was linked with the Barcelona job before they opted for Koeman. It is hard not to think how different this team would be had he taken over even with all their limitations.

Koeman is likely safe until the end of the season. Come the summer, all bets are off. But as the season moves forward, it’s becoming quite clear that Koeman isn’t the answer Barcelona are looking for.
