Barcelona have had multiple players out due to injury this season which has caused a very unusual run of form. Ronald Koeman’s men have had multiple ups and downs this season. They’re way behind on second place in La Liga, while Athletic Bilbao knocked them out of the cup competition.

They’re also on the verge of losing out on another Spanish cup as they’re down 2-0 in the first leg in the Copa del Rey tie against Sevilla. The Catalans looked to be doing extremely well in the UEFA Champions League until they met Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16. The first leg ended in heartbreak for the Blaugrana as they were thrashed 4-1. Kylian Mbappe bagged a hat-trick at the Nou Camp.

The injury problems and financial problems were constant at Barcelona throughout the 2020/21 season. However, a few weeks ago Uruguayan center back Ronald Araujo picked up another injury. The young defender reportedly experienced a sprain in his ankles which led to him being sidelined and missing the PSG tie. The player was greatly missed as he has been fantastic ever since he came in to replace Gerard Pique when the 34-year-old suffered his major injury at the beginning of the season.

However, reports from Sport suggest that Ronald Araujo is closing in on a return from injury. The defender experienced a sprain in his ankles in the game against Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis, in which the Catalans ended up winning 3-2. A thrilling tie but it ended on a bad note with the Uruguayan being out with an injury.

While Araujo was not risked against Cadiz, he will most probably be back for Barcelona’s midweek trip to Elche or even the following weekend’s tie against Sevilla.
