Barcelona’s Ronald Koeman is reportedly eyeing Paris Saint-Germain left-back Juan Bernat in the upcoming summer transfer window of 2021. The Dutchman has been considering left-back options for quite a while now as Jordi Alba has started showing signs of aging and is failing to deliver consistent performances.

Former Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo was signed with a lot of hope and hype at the Nou Camp but the player failed to live up to the expectations. Many reports suggest that the young defender is likely to depart in the summer with a move away to Serie A being planned.
As for Bernat, the left-back’s contract with the French giants is coming to an end at the end of the 2020/21 season. It does not look like Mauricio Pochettino is interested in offering the left-back a fresh contract. According to the current situation, it definitely looks like the player is going to be a free agent in the summer and Barcelona are definitely looking to monitor and move in on this situation, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Ronald Koeman was previously interested in Valencia’s left-back Jose Gaya. The Spaniard was seen as the ultimate replacement for Alba. However, recent reports state that the Blaugrana have cooled their interest in the Valencia man as he will cost a good amount of money. With the current ongoing financial problems at the Nou Camp, the former Southampton manager will not have the luxury to spend so easily.
Barcelona planning many free-agent signings.
However, there are solutions to the current financial problems. The club are looking to move in on various potential free agents in the summer to strengthen their squad, like Manchester City’s Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero who have not yet been offered contracts. PSG’s Bernat and Bayern Munich‘s David Alaba are also a part of the potential free targets. Hence, it does look like a move for the PSG left back to the La Liga will be a very good move for both parties.
