Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona future in the hands of the next president.

Ronald Koeman knew what he was signing up for when he agreed to become Barcelona manager. Results were going to dictate whether or not he would continue in the role come next season.

Perhaps what he didn’t expect was the process being expedited once Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board decided to step down. His tenure is now dependent on who wins the upcoming elections.

One of the candidates, Victor Font, has continually expressed that if he won, he would bring in former player Xavi Hernandez as manager. Joan Laporta, the frontrunner, has yet to make a decision on if he would make a change.

Toni Freixa, on the other hand, has come out and said that without any hesitation, he would keep Koeman as manager if elected.

"“We give confidence and stability and we will give him more arguments with a competitive squad,” Freixa said. “The confidence in Ronald is indisputable and we will keep him without a doubt.”Source: Sport"

Freixa is the first to come out and express his full support behind Koeman. He is willing to keep the Dutchman one more season even if he does not win any trophies.

Very few managers have survived going a season at Barcelona without winning anything. They did not win anything last season and it’s one of the reasons why Quique Setien was fired and they ended up with Koeman.

The promise of continuity may be a moot point if Freixa does not win. In any case, barring any surprises, no final decision on Koeman’s future will be made until the end of the season.
