Fati and Garcia of course, used to be teammates back in La Masia before the centre-back chose to live his life in England under the guidance of Spanish master mind, Pep Guardiola. The defender got impatient trying to break into the Barcelona team and thus chose to try his luck elsewhere.
However, the 20 year old got homesick and the lack of chances at Manchester City only made him more determined to return to Catalonia. Koeman tried to bring him back to the club back in the summer transfer window but was unable to see the deal go through due to the lack of funds however, the player will become a free agent at the end of the season and thus he will be free to join the Blaugrana.
Garcia was one of the most talented players in the academy and thus it is not surprising that the club wanted him back. Fati, one of the player who spent a lot of time with the defender in the youth divisions, commented on Garcia coming to Barcelona.
Barcelona youngster talks about his old teammate joining him next season
In an interview with Barcelona’s official media channel the youngster who was recently nominated for the Laureus award for ‘revelation of the year’, talked about the nomination as well as Garcia joining him once again. He told reporters,
"“We’ve grown up together since we were kids, we’ve always competed against each other and he’s helped me to improve,”“He was very hard to dribble past and overcome, he’s always had that fight since we were kids. Later we’ve coincided in the national team, something we always dreamed of.”Source SPORT"
Fati was an absolute sensation this season before his injury. He managed to score five goals and provide four assists in just 10 matches. However, he got injured after that and had to go through an operation.
The player is still recovering from the operation and Koeman does not want to rush the player into action. There is still a long way to go for Fati but his progress seems quite satisfying and we would all love to see Fati play alongside Garcia ones again. The La Masia players have taken the club by a storm and a new era is upon us.
