Arsenal defender has been linked with Barcelona once again as latest reports suggest that presidential candidate, Joan Laporta, has set his sights on bringing him to Camp Nou.

More from Everything Barca

The Mirror reports that Laporta has already held a discussion with the 25-year-old’s representatives regarding a potential summer transfer away from the Gunnars.

Having grown up in Barca’s academy, La Masia, Bellerin has always been linked with a move back to Catalan ever since his debut for the Premier League side in 2014. Bellerin has been under Arsenal colors since 2011, making 232 appearances, so far, for the first-team.

The presidential elections at Barca are set to take place this month with all three candidates already planning out the future for the club. Laporta and Victor Font remain the two favorites, with the former already been the club’s president from 2003-2010.

Laporta has already revealed a number of his plans to the public, including the renewal of Lionel Messi as he believes he is the only person within the club that can convince the Argentine to extend his stay at the Nou Camp.

ESPN had reported that Bellerin had the intention of leaving Arsenal at the end of last season but the then newly appointed coach, Mikel Arteta, convinced the defender to stay. But it is possible that Bellerin may make a return to Barca if Laporta is elected president with Paris Saint-Germain also interested in acquiring the player.

The Catalan giants have already signed a new right-back in Sergino Dest, with the American defender aiming to repeat the success of Dani Alves at the Nou Camp. But Bellerin’s arrival might not only provide some competition for the youngster but also an alternative tactical advantage.

It remains to be seen whether Laporta’s interest in Bellerin remains true after he gets elected, as the Catalans are in desperate need of reinforcements in other positions and it will be surprising to see the right-back role being given the priority, especially with the club struggling financially.
