Lionel Messi is on the path to break another historical Barcelona record. The Argentine will match Xavi Hernandez’s record in the next match that he plays and he will break the record in the match after that, making him the player with the most number of appearances in a Barcelona shirt.

The 33-year-old forward currently has 766 games under his belt and is just two games away from taking the record away from legend, Xavi. Hernandez accumulated 767 games in the span of 17 seasons while it took Messi only 16. He has been the most influential player for the Catalan side and his impact is extraordinary.

To show his statistical impact on the team, let’s look at the number of games he has won with the Catalans. Messi has won 535 games, drew 140 of them, and lost only 91 times. He has also managed to rack up 659 goals along with 289 assists. This also makes him the player with the most amount of goal for a single club, beating out Pele.

The Argentine will match Xavi’s legendary record in their next match against Huesca and will break it the next time he makes an appearance. This will undoubtedly cement his legacy as a footballing god in Barcelona.

His future with the club is not set, however, and he still has to decide whether he will stay on at his boyhood club or move on to another club for a new challenge. The Mercurial forward has been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain however, he has not revealed his decision yet and it is certainly keeping Barcelona fans up at night with anticipation.
