Lionel Messi’s 767th appearance for the club was against Huesca and a night to remember for many. With a thrilling 4-1 victory to the Catalans, talisman Leo Messi, was unbeatable and understandably so.

More from Everything Barca

The Argentine equaled club legend Xavi Hernandez‘s match appearances(in all competitions) for Barcelona record and with what finesse. Before the appearance, Xavi spoke about his affection and respect for Leo, and praised him immensely, adding his hopes that he would play for Barca in the coming seasons as well.

Messi made his debut for Barcelona in 2005 and has broken and set innumerable records to his name since then, some of which will take years to be surpassed, if ever at all. He has scored 658 goals for Barca and is, unsurprisingly, the top goal scorer for the club.

Lionel Messi’s memorable 767th appearance

In the match against Huesca, the maestro once more demonstrated why he’s at the top. He opened the tally at just thirteen minutes into the game, with what can only be dubbed as a classic Messi move, winging it over the top left corner with his magic touch. His happiness and joy were clearly palpable as he celebrated. In typical Messi fashion, he managed a second goal at the 90th minute with his left foot, sealing the deal for the Catalans.

In this monumental match, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner walked away with 2 goals, an assist to his name, and a huge grin on his face. If Leo does stay on at Barca, he will surely go on to break more records and former teammate Xavi touts him as the best.

Meanwhile, Messi, who has played many memorable matches with Xavi and brought in trophies during the glory period of Barca, was also very close to the Spaniard. Their affection is still very apparent as the usually media-averse Messi expressed his thoughts on Xavi:

"“He is the best player in the history of Spanish football”"

With the upcoming match against Real Sociedad, Leo will make his record-breaking appearance after the equalizer with Huesca.

Fans can only hope Xavi will return to the club as manager or sporting director and the enigmatic duo can reunite.
