It has been a rather interesting season for Barcelona but one of the best things that happened to their club this season is Pedri.

More from Everything Barca

The young Spaniard has taken the club and the nation by storm after a series of incredible performances. The 18-year-old has been at the heart of Barcelona’s midfield and he makes such an impact on the game that he had even been compared to Lionel Messi before.

He is not directly involved in goals much but his link-up play and presence makes the teamwork. The youngster has passion and determination and his desire to win is noticeable via his work rate. He is primarily focused on the attack but he helps out his defense a lot as well. His form has even gotten the attention of Spanish national team coach, Luis Enrique, and he has been given his first national call-up.

A player of this quality would not be cheap of course. He is just 18 and has already made over 40 appearances for the Blaugrana in all competitions. Pedri has been having a great debut season but his former club’s president, Miguel Angel Ramirez, reminded Barcelona in an interview that they would have to pay more for the Spaniard if continues to in this form.

Pedri’s former club reminds Barcelona that they could pay more for the young talent in the future.

In an interview with Cadena SER, UD Las Palmas’ president talked about how Pedri could earn his club more money through the clauses in his contract with the Catalans. He said in the interview,

"“From the day we’ve made the sale of Pedri until today, we’ve collected about €11m. Once all the clauses are met, it could reach up to €22m-€23m. We also get 15 per cent of a future sale.“Barca is the club that counted on Pedri the most. There was another club from Spain that had offered more money, but we kept our word.“He has gone to the perfect club and is now playing with the best player in the world.”Source Goal"

While 22 million euros may seem very cheap for a player of his quality, we must also keep in mind that the Catalan Kings are going through a rather difficult time, financially speaking. They also have to offer Messi a new contract which will cut a huge hole in their budget and overall, they are not in the position to give away more money.

The youngster has been sensational this season so all we can do is hope that he maintains his form and goes on to become one of the greatest at Barcelona as he certainly has the potential to do so.
