Frenkie de Jong could start in the Barcelona midfield

Midfield:

Right wing back: Sergino Dest

Sergino Dest’s first season at Barcelona hasn’t been short of ups and downs. Injuries and difficulties in adjusting to Barcelona’s style and tempo saw Dest perform inconsistently but in recent times he has started to showcase his true self, a young, fiery full back flourishing in full flow.

Central midfield: Sergio Busquets

Sergio Busquets continues to be the heart of Barcelona’s engine room, racking up spectacular performances one after the other to prove his impact on the team. The 32 year old will be key in breaking down Sociedad’s play and in turn helping Barcelona dominate the midfield battle.

Central midfield: Pedri

Pedri has been nothing short of a revelation this season. The youngster has rightfully earned his first call up to Spain national team. In many ways, his stellar performances have propelled Barcelona to fight for La Liga which at one stage looked out of the question.

Central midfield: Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong has been unreal since the start of 2021, playing a major hand in Barcelona’s turn of fortunes in La Liga. In the recent weeks, Koeman deployed him in a centre back role but the best of his performances have come from the midfield role where he’s had the freedom to wander forward and make those runs in the box.

Now that Araujo is fit, de Jong will have the liberty to not only partner Busquets in the middle of the park but also surge forward to add extra attacking threat.

Left wing back: Jordi Alba

Jordi Alba is one of three birthday boys at Barcelona and will be destined to start against Los Txuri-Urdin. Alba has maintained his outstanding standard throughout the season, registering 5 goals and 11 assists so far.

The attacking qualities have never been doubted and now he is reaping even more benefits playing in a more advanced role. Sociedad’s right side will have huge problems coping with Alba’s pace and attacking intent.
