Barcelona are on a warpath with Joan Laporta at the top, making all the plans to make the club an elite team once again. The easiest way for any team to climb back to the top is by buying players and Laporta has some ambitious plans of signing some big names. Not only is the president going after Erling Haaland, new reports suggest that he also desires Juventus defender, Matthijs de Ligt.

More from Everything Barca

According to reports from Football Italia, the Catalan president wants to bring in two new defenders for Ronald Koeman, De Ligt being one of them. The other one is Eric Garcia, whose move to Camp Nou is as good as done. Laporta recently had a meeting with Mino Raiola and Haaland’s father to discuss a possible move for the striker to Barcelona but apparently, Haaland was not the only player being discussed by Raiola and Laporta.

De Ligt moved from Ajax to Juventus while his former teammate, Frenkie de Jong, moved to the Blaugrana. While the centre-back already won the Serie A once, Juventus’ current form does not seem promising whereas Barcelona are starting over fresh and could go onto regain their former glory. It will be a tough decision for the 21-year-old to make however, a reunion between him and De Jong seems highly possible, especially with Dutch coach Ronald Koeman as the manager along with assistant from Ajax, Alfred Schreuder.

Juventus will try to stop Barcelona at all cost

The Old Lady, however, is not happy with the transfer rumors at all as they expect De Ligt to become one of their best investments. The player is young and has a huge potential and selling him off at this stage would be a terrible loss for them. They might try to put a huge price tag on the player in order to scare off Barcelona however, Laporta’s great relationship with Raiola means that there is a good chance of the deal going through.
