Barcelona defeat against Real Madrid made one thing clear, they need to strengthen their defense. While the likes of Oscar Mingueza, Gerard Pique, and Clement Lenglet are not bad per se, they are also not the top defenders in the world. The Catalans do not have the money to buy top-class defenders however, bringing in some more reinforcements could do them good as it would mean more options as well as raise the competitiveness within the team. One player whom they could go for is Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez.

More from Everything Barca

The 24-year-old center-back from Colombia has been Spurs’ top choice centre-back for a few years now however, recent comments from Jose Mourinho suggests that the player could be up for sale in the next transfer window. After their disappointing draw against Newcastle, Mourinho questioned the quality of his players and according to reports, he is willing to sell seven players in order to bring in a few more players of better quality. Sanchez is among those seven players that he is willing to let go of.

Barcelona might get the defender for cheap

Although the Portuguese coach claims that these players do not have the quality to play in the Premier League, maybe it is his managerial prowess that is degrading over time. The 24-year-old is a talented centre-back and he will easily find another club if he is let go by Spurs. The Blaugranas could try to sign him once again as the player has good experience and was a target for the club once before when he was in Ajax.

The English club eventually stole Sanchez for 42 million euros in 2017 but now maybe it is time for the Colombian to see what would have happened if he had signed for Barcelona instead. Apart from Sanchez, the Catalans are also looking to bring in Eric Garcia and could also go for Jerome Boateng, whose contract is ending at the end of the season.

Should Barca look to sign the Tottenham star?
