The Erling Haaland to Barcelona saga continues however, with the latest update, the rumors and negotiations might just come to an end. According to reports from various reputable sources, the Norwegian striker is demanding a yearly salary of 35 million euros. This is an insane amount even for such a talented player. Joan Laporta, Barca’s President, knows that the club is in no state to pay such a tremendous amount to a player. Along with that, the transfer fee and several add-ons could easily take the whole deal to over 400 million euros. Should the player be unwilling to lower his demands, his move to the Catalan side could be considered as good as over.

The 20-year-old striker has just been a sensation ever since his remarkable UEFA Champions League season with RB Salzburg. He had the chance then to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world, Manchester United, however, he wanted to test out the big leagues first before making a move to one of the elites of Europe. That’s why he decided to move to Borussia Dortmund instead and after enjoying a fantastic season with the German giants, he has decided to take his career to the next level.
Erling Haaland has shown interest in Barcelona
For most players, joining Barcelona or Real Madrid can be the biggest achievement. They are two of the biggest clubs in the world and playing for them is an honor for anyone. Haaland has the same idea and he and his agent, Mino Raiola, had informal talks with both the clubs this month. Laporta has been very vocal about bringing Haaland to the club and everything pointed at the player landing at Catalonia till the wage talks.
According to Goal, Raiola is demanding 35 million euros a year for his client and the transfer will also include a lump sum for himself as well as Haaland’s father. This along with the transfer fee which Dortmund is demanding, 150 million euros, will most likely push Barcelona out of the transfer deal. However, they will not have to worry too much as Real Madrid are not likely to pay the fee either. Los Blancos are unwilling to pay so much for the young talent during these trying times and they also value Kylian Mbappe over the striker.
This might be disappointing for some Catalan fans but honestly, this should have been expected. The club does not have the funds to even pay the wages of their current players and a serious re-working of the budget is required. On top of that, the 1.2 billion euros debt also needs to be repaid. The last thing that the club needs is a big-money transfer which will push the club further towards bankruptcy.
