Lionel Messi breaks another Copa del Rey final record
It’s almost as if every week when Lionel Messi plays in any respective competition, he ends up either matching or breaking a new record. The Barcelona legend broke yet another massive record as the Catalans won their first silverware of the 2020/21 season. The Blaugrana played Sevilla in the Copa del Rey finals. Goals from Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie De Jong, and a brace from the magician himself led Ronald Koeman and his men to finally catch a break in such a roller coaster of a season.

Lionel Messi breaks another record
First of many, is the whole mentality around the Nou Camp as Ronald Koeman already collected his first trophy as Barcelona manager. As for Lionel Messi, he went on to exceed the total goal tally record of Telmo Zarra. As of now, the Argentine is the highest goalscorer in the competition’s history.
The six-time Balon D’or winner scored his tenth Copa del Rey goal with the late brace against Sevilla. This was the seventh time the magician has won the competition.
The season does not stop here. The Catalans are also very alive in the La Liga title race. They are sitting in the third position, one point behind Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid and two points behind Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. If Barca end up winning the La Liga, they will have a total of two trophies in Koeman’s first year. It would be a massive achievement given the fact that the club had suffered major financial and injury problems from the very beginning of the season.
Even at the age of 33, the Argentine has performed brilliantly. From chance creation to scoring goals and assisting them, even at such an age, the magician has done it brilliantly. Even after such a slow start to the season according to his standards, Leo has managed to turn things around and appear again amongst the top goal scorers in Europe. The Argentine has once again been Barcelona’s best-attacking player this season.
Will Messi manage to lead Barca to win this season’s La Liga title?
