Initially, the defender looked to have settled in very well at Barcelona since he signed from Olympique Lyonnais. His performances alongside Gerard Pique even sealed his place in the French national team which led to him winning the FIFA World Cup with his national side in 2018.
Ever since the end of the 2018 world cup, however, Umtiti failed to keep up his performances after a knee injury. His display on the field turned inconsistent and his form seemed to dip. Ultimately succumbing to a few relapsing injuries, the centre-back was replaced in both Barca and the French squad. The likes of Clement Lenglet, Oscar Mingueza, and Ronald Araujo seem to have more of an impact at the Nou Camp while Umtiti continued to fight for the spot.
After been given multiple chances but failing to relive his glory days, it now looks like the Frenchman is not going to be a part of Ronald Koeman’s plans at the Nou Camp. However, the centre-back will have the opportunity to revive his reputation and get back to his old form in the premier league, if a deal is to be made.
The Barcelona defender is a wanted man in England
In the English league, he will have the opportunity to play under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool or Ole Gunnar Solksjaer at Manchester United. This will be a fresh start for the defender and it will allow him to get back to his original form and regain some respect in Europe.
Everyone is aware of the quality the Frenchman has under his belt. However, his run with Barcelona is nearing its closure. The future for the centre-back at the Nou Camp looks very bleak, especially with club president Joan Laporta planning to bring new defenders after already confirming the arrival of Manchester City star Eric Garcia. A fresh move to the Premier League will definitely be a positive aspect for the player.
Should Barca sell Umtiti?
