Messi’s contract with Barcelona comes to an end on June 30th of this year. The 33-year-old had infamously asked the club to let him off last year. Since that did not happen, the Argentine continued to play for the Blaugrana this season.
The Paris Saint-Germain offer
The French supergiants are leaving no stones unturned to attempt to lure away arguably the best footballer of our generation after 21 years. As per TNT Sports Brazil, PSG has put a confident deal of two years on the table. It is unmatched by any other clubs at this moment, even by the Catalans.
PSG are still on their path to win the prestigious silver of the Champions League. In their pursuit, they think that Messi’s desire perfectly aligns with their club. Certainly, PSG is fairing much better than FCB for the past few seasons. Their major signings show their obsession to be successful.
With Mbappé possibly leaving next season, players like Neymar, Di María, Navas, and Marquinhos will require a formidable footballer. If Messi desperately wants to win another UCL trophy, PSG might be just the place to do it.
What’s changed for FC Barcelona?
Messi has not yet given a statement regarding his future. Since last year a couple of things has changed in the structure of Barça. This season Joan Laporta took over the presidentship from Josep Bartomeu. The president promised major changes to be implemented in the club’s system.
The club has sparked a new form of admirable style under the leadership change from last season. With Koeman overboard, Barcelona has won the Copa del Rey and is favorites to win the La Liga from the Madrid clubs. Leo could see these silver linings foreshadowing a new era of rising for the club.
Barcelona has to convince the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to see reason in their vision. Especially in regards to the direction where the club is heading. It is tough to read what’s going on in Leo’s mind, but as it looks, he might believe in Laporta’s vision and choose to stay. Barça knows that they won’t match other clubs’ offers, but all they need to do is convince the man who loves this club much more than anyone else.
Do you think Messi should stay?
