Barcelona managed to shoot themselves in the foot during the thrilling title race of La Liga. Within two days, both Atlético and Real Madrid left Barça behind by extending the gap between them. The Madrid duo exactly did what Barcelona failed to do, grab those dangling three points to move a step closer towards the season’s title.
Zidane’s side further decreased the gap to Atlético back within two points from the top. The title race is now almost exclusive between Simeone and Zidane. After the abysmal collapse of Barça against Levante, Sergio Busquets has come out to state that he has conceded the hopes of his team’s chances.
"“We don’t have much chance left, it depends on what the others do, but there are very few points left to play for. We started well and had the advantage, but in the end, it was the same thing that has happened throughout the season – we made mistakes and they scored too easily. We weren’t accurate in the second half and they did well to recover It’s not only this game. There have been a lot. There was a time when we looked very good but we haven’t been like that lately.” – Sergio Busquets via Marca."
Levante’s comeback from lagging by two goals at the first half to managing to draw the game at 3-3 reflects on a questionable inconsistency that jeopardized and landed the club in the area of its latest disappointment. The scrutiny after the crumble indicates towards the manager, Ronald Koeman, who has not found any viable solution to the club’s existing problems. Mathematically there is still a chance for the Culers, but realistically it all looks very slim.
