Manchester City will be hosting a “special farewell” for their all-time leading goal scorer on Sunday. On the final day of the season, City will be playing against Everton at the Etihad Stadium. It will allow 10,000 spectators to attend the spectacle.
Agüero’s agreement with Barcelona
Barcelona has reportedly reached an agreement to attain the services of Agüero, who makes his return to La Liga after a decade’s absence since he left Atlético Madrid. The 32-year-old’s contract will soon run its course, and he will be joining Barça on a free transfer.
The Argentine was considered to be one of the best strikers in the world. However, he had been reduced to spend most of his time on the sidelines this season due to a prolonged meniscus injury. According to Marca, he has agreed on a two-year deal with Barcelona and is guaranteed to earn five million euros per year as a Culer. Kun is taking a pay cut to play alongside arguably one of the greatest of all time, Lionel Messi.
Why Kun Agüero?
Barcelonistes have been looking for a No. 9 since Suarez‘s departure to Atletico Madrid last summer. President Joan Laporta has promised of undertaking big decisions which he is calling a “renewal process,” and it appears to start with Agüero’s signing. The management has kept an eye out for another option as Memphis Depay, who is expected to provide depth in their attacking options.
The main reason to attain Agüero, even when he is not at the top of his game, is to use his valuable experience with no requirement of a hefty transfer fee. Laporta also sees this as a meticulous opportunity that would help him persuade Messi to stay at the club and accept a renewal. It is a fact that both the Argentine forwards are close friends. Messi is even the Godfather of Agüero’s son Benjamin.
Optimism remains that Messi will stay on at the moment and extend his contract with Laporta. Barcelona would want to sign at least two prolific strikers for the 2021-22 season to increase their chance of success for the next season. Things are not that easy for the club as they are under a delicate financial situation. Agüero won’t be the only one joining the Blaugrana, as his teammate and Manchester City defender Eric Garcia will also be traveling to Catalonia as a free agent.
