Recent reports by Mundo Deportivo & Catalunya Ràdio suggest that the board of directors of FC Barcelona are now on the verge of confirming the continuity of their manager. Ronald Koeman has met with the Barcelona sports vice president, Rafa Yuste, and the director of football, Mateu Alemany, on Tuesday, where they have discussed their plans regarding the 2021-22 season.
Ronald Koeman’s negotiations with Barcelona
The alleged negotiations involve a mutual agreement of Koeman agreeing to convert a part of the guaranteed salary into variables for a contract that runs until 2022. It also has provisions of adding another optional year depending on if the Blaugrana manages to achieve its seasonal objectives.
"“I already said that we were opening a period of reflection for Koeman, we have to evaluate what has gone well and what has not gone well last season. We needed this quiet period and, in a week, or ten days we will meet again, but there are talks. The talks are going very well. The period of reflection was necessary. – Laporta said during Eric Garcia’s presentation."
The board is making some spectacular additions to their squad by utilizing the free agency. Signings such as Sergio Agüero and Eric García have been a solid example of this. To aid the boss further, the board is cherry-picking Dutch national team players such as Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay in a similar fashion to resonate well with their former national team manager.
We have witnessed the boss give youngsters a fair share of chances, that have displayed a transition of embodying the concept of “gone with the old, in with the new.” Few benefactors from this process were the 18-year-old Pedri, who has played 52 games for the Blaugrana this season, more than anyone else. Similarly, the backline has revamped with young starlets as the likes of Sergiño Dest, Ronald Araújo, and Óscar Mingueza got plenty of spotlights to display their calibre.
Next season will be very interesting as Carlo Ancelotti made his shocking return back to Real Madrid. The two former Everton managers will be on either side of the El Clásico clash between the next year’s top title contenders.
