Lionel Messi was on the verge of leaving Barcelona when he had handed in a transfer request over the 2020 summer transfer window a year ago. However, then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu argued that the maestro had a year left on his contract at that point, hence he was barred from leaving due to multiple legal complications.
It was then assumed that the Argentine will part ways with the club during the summer of 2021. However, there are absolutely no signs from the player indicating his interest towards leaving the club after the re-appointment of former president Joan Laporta.
The player had an exclusive interview with Goal where he stated that he will not make any comments on his future until the season is completely over. But as the last season came to a close, Laporta made a vow to not only renew the Argentine’s contract but also sign solid reinforcements to convince him.
With Messi playing Copa America with his country Argentina, Barca have a little time before the six-time Ballon d’Or winner sits to finalize his future. Having said that, Laporta is wasting no time and has kept constant conversations with Messi’s father and sources close to both parties claim an agreement is inevitable.
Laporta is confident about Lionel Messi’s renewal
President Joan Laporta is convinced that the player will stay and continue at the Nou Camp. Another major reason for Messi to stay put as of now is the arrival of his best friend Sergio Aguero from Manchester City. The Catalans signed the player on a free transfer and he can be a huge reason for the little magician to stay at Barcelona.
The latest rumors claim that Leo will be signing a 2-year deal with an option to extend for another year, following which the Argentine will move to MLS to live out his dream of playing in America.
