The summer clear-out continues at Barcelona as the club has reached an agreement to sell Carles Aleñá to Getafe.

The midfielder becomes the fifth player to leave the club following the departures of Jean-Clair Todibo, Konrad de la Fuente, Junior Firpo, and the contract termination of Matheus Fernandes.

The Catalan side released a statement confirming the move. However, the agreement was not without its conditions. Barcelona did manage to reserve the right to 50 percent of any future sale, a buy-back option, and the first right of refusal on any offer.

While no transfer fee was disclosed in the press release, according to Sport, it is believed to be in the neighborhood of around €5 million.

Aleñá is no stranger to Getafe as he spent a part of last season on loan at the Madrid-based side. Before that, he spent another season on loan with Real Betis.

His dream was to succeed with Barcelona but was never given a real opportunity under any manager including Ronald Koeman.

The move puts an end to Aleña’s 16 years at the club as he put out a statement of his own on his Instagram saying goodbye and thanking those who have helped him along the way.

Before agreeing to go to Getafe, he was also linked with a move to Valencia as a possible piece in a swap deal for left-back José Luis Gayà. However, he was uncertain of playing again for José Bordalás. He was his manager at Getafe and used him sparingly.

He becomes another academy graduate who leaves the club in search of more playing time. The 23-year-old cannot afford to spend another season at Barcelona where he’s stuck on the bench.

Given the conditions put in the agreement, Barca do seem to still have confidence in him and could potentially return if he succeeds at Getafe.
