One of the biggest Barcelona transfer flops also happens to be the most expensive transfer in their history. Philippe Coutinho was brought in from Liverpool in early 2018, as the club’s new Xavi Hernandez. The attacking midfielder had shown all the signs of a great player at his time in Liverpool however, he could not carry on this form into La Liga.

After a pretty disappointing first season, the midfielder was loaned to Bayern Munich in order to ease his massive wages. He did not do much better in the Bundesliga either however, he did manage to win the UEFA Champions League with the Germans, and he scored two goals against his parent club in that same competition.

In the end, however, the Germans decided against buying him and this was mostly due to his injury-prone nature. The Brazilian returned to Barcelona, determined to make an impact on his second full season with the club. There was a new manager with a new philosophy and Coutinho made a positive start under him however, he was injured yet again, at the start of the season, and that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The Blaugrana president, Joan Laporta, has seen enough of the player and has decided that he is not suitable for the club. His injury-proneness and his age make him a liability for the club and thus Barca is actively looking to sell him.
