Barcelona were once the Kings of Europe and the Kings of the World. Their Sextuple winning squad was probably the greatest squad club football had ever seen, so how does a team like that fall down so much in a matter of a decade? The simple answer to that question is the lack of management by former president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The ex-president did not look into the core root of the matters and instead just tried to solve everything by expensive signings.

This process did not help the Catalans in the long run, and only left them an overwhelming debt, which has still not been paid back by the club. While the club still maintains their spots as one of the highest-earning clubs, they have taken a huge hit during the pandemic, and it is becoming increasingly more difficult to repay their debts. Their only hope now is the new president, Joan Laporta, and his expertise when it comes to tough situations.

Laporta not only wants to make Barca a financially respectable club again, but he also wants to take them back to the top of Europe. For too long the Catalans have forgotten their history, and now it is time to fight back for their heritage. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they need to go through a successful transitional stage in order to make a proper comeback.

The Blaugrana went through their first transitional season under Ronald Koeman, and it was a decent season, considering the circumstances. There was a lot of unrest within the club however, the Catalans managed to win the Copa del Rey convincingly, and they also reached the finals of the Supercopa de Espana. Next season could be Barca’s for the taking and here are five reasons why they might be the club to beat.
