In a complete turn of events, Barcelona have shockingly reported that their biggest superstar Lionel Messi will no longer be linked with the club as they cannot renew his contract despite reaching an agreement.

Ever since his reappointment, club president Joan Laporta had urged everyone to remain confident about Messi’s future and that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will definitely sign a renew as he wants to continue his career with the Catalans.

Unfortunately for the Spanish giants, just the idea that Messi wants to continue was not enough, and have now revealed that they will be unable to renew his contract due to an obstacle that has come up their way.

"“Despite having reached an agreement between FC Barcelona and Leo Messi and with the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, it cannot be formalized due to economic and structural obstacles (Spanish LaLiga regulations) .“Given this situation, Lionel Messi will not continue with FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of both the player and the Club cannot finally be fulfilled.“Barça would like to thank with all its heart the player’s contribution to the enhancement of the institution and wishes him the best in his personal and professional life.”Source FC Barcelona Statement"

The Argentine had held a meeting with the club on Thursday but the outcome of that was simply the fact that the La Liga regulations will not allow for Messi to renew despite him wanting to stay. Recent reports even suggest that the Argentine had agreed to accept a 50% pay cut but even that is reportedly not enough to meet the wage cap.
