To say it’s shocking would only be an understatement at this point. FC Barcelona parted ways with their premier star Lionel Messi last night. The series of events that strung together yesterday seems like an impossibility. The Barcelona loyalists are still in awe of the mess that’s left behind after the sudden departure of Lionel Messi. However, when you think that things can’t get any worse, they often do.
Lionel Messi was unaware of Barcelona decision
According to recent reports from Mundo Deportivo, Messi’s close circle of relatives and peers have informed the Argentine himself was unaware of Barça’s decision, catching the news completely off-guard as everyone else. Not having any prior indication has left Messi in shock.
Furthermore, Messi has no sudden plans to make a public statement regarding the situation. We expect some further clarification after club president Joan Laporta‘s press address. the Blaugrana has put forward an official club statement. They clarified that they felt compelled to do this as per the latest La Liga rules.
The rules narrow the financial decision-making power, makes re-signing Messi an improbability for them. The Argentine is now expecting to get a chance to say goodbyes to his fans for the last time at Camp Nou. It is the least he can wish from the club that he has contributed so much.
La Liga‘s reach and marketability are surely going to get compromised due to their own decisions. A few years earlier, the popularity of the league declined when Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid. Messi was keeping La Liga and Barcelona afloat. After losing such an asset this year, things don’t look so good for the Spanish league.
Where do you think Messi would go?
