The interest from Laporta is such he and Mendes have already met with Lille president Olivier Létang to discuss possible options on how to get Sanches to Camp Nou.

The Catalans had been linked to the soon-to-be 24-year-old earlier in the summer but the asking price of €35 million was too rich for a side in a financial mess. He was also offered on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

In the meeting with the Lille president, every possible scenario was put on the table but Létang was not convinced.

Ronald Koeman is still vying for a couple of more signings and another midfielder is on his wish list. The club is working on offloading Miralem Pjanic and Pedri is likely going to be given a break considering the amount of football he’s played in the summer.

The need for another midfielder has only intensified following Barcelona’s preseason loss to RB Salzburg. The club put out a statement in which they announced both Frenkie de Jong and Gavi picked up an injury.

They’ve been discarded for the Gamper match against Juventus over the weekend. The Dutchmna, however, has not been ruled out for their first league game against Real Sociedad.

Singing Renato Sanches would add a huge boost to the Barcelona midfield. Despite being a highly-rated prospect, he struggled in his stint with Bayern Munich. He’s turned things around with Lille and was an important part of why they won Ligue 1 last season.
