Barcelona fans and even world football fans were left in shock when the Spanish giants announced that their six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi will not be able to continue at the club despite reaching an agreement.

More from Everything Barca

President Joan Laporta, in a public statement, revealed that the La Liga regulations has made it impossible for them to register Messi and that having him continue could potentially put the club at further financial risk for years to come.

Stating that despite Messi being the best footballer in the world, the club must think long-term and putting them in financial turmoil for years to come is simply not the kind of risk they are willing to take.

Many believe that Messi’s departure is politically influenced with La Liga’s CVC deal being the culprit. Rumors have it that La Liga wants to bury the European Super League talks with the CVC Capital Partners deal which would bring 2.7 million euros to the league, with each club getting their fair share.

With Real Madrid and Barcelona both rejecting this idea, many believe that the reason Messi wasn’t allowed to be registered is that La Liga wanted the Catalan side to sign the deal or lose their biggest superstar.

While the CVC agreement brings massive cash flow in the short term, clubs will lose even more in the long run, and for this reason, Barcelona have joined rivals Real Madrid in rejecting the proposed CVC investment.

While all this is happening, Messi is left in limbo and must now look at all the options elsewhere to continue his career. He must not only plan for himself, but also his family, who are extremely used to staying at Barcelona.

Lionel Messi set to join Paris Saint-Germain

Having said that, ESPN reports that Paris Saint-Germain have prepared a three-year contract with the final year being an option. Not only that but Messi is extremely close to accepting the deal and could potentially move to Paris and play alongside former teammates Neymar, Angel Di Maria and many more.

If he accepts, the 34-year-old will make the Parisians unbeatable, with the club already signing major stars like Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, and Georginio Wijnaldum this summer. The presence of Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino will also help convince Messi to join and no one can argue that a forward lineup of Neymar, Messi, and Kylian Mbappe would without a doubt be the most lethal anyone has ever seen.
