While this is Nico’s second appearance after having a brilliant display in his debut against Real Sociedad two weeks ago, Pablo Páez Gavira aka ‘Gavi’ finally got to live his dream of playing in La Liga at the Nou Camp.
Ronald Koeman has shown last season that he isn’t afraid to give minutes to youngsters, which goes hand-in-hand with the Barca philosophy and after showing his potential during the pre-season matches, Gavi finally got to experience his first competitive match with the first-team.
Gavi thrilled with his Barcelona debut
Gavi came on in the 75th minute to replace Martin Braithwaite, just 24 days after turning 17, making him the fourth-youngest to play in La Liga for Barca. The youngster, as one can imagine, was extremely delighted with the chance given by coach Koeman and opened up about the experience to Barca TV.
"“I am very happy. I’m the happiest kid in the world. It’s a dream come true.”“A thousand things went through my head and I was a bit nervous as I was warming up, but I went out to give it the max. I remember all the coaches I’ve had and how they helped me to develop.”Source FC Barcelona Website"
While Barca are currently rebuilding themselves after the departure of Lionel Messi, fans can be excited about the fact that Koeman is willing to give youngsters their deserved chance and this could potentially lead to the Catalans having a squad filled with La Masia talents in the near future.
