Unless there is a massive change in direction, Miralem Pjanic is set to stay another season at Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the player was unable to come to an agreement with his former club with his wages proving to be the most significant stumbling block. Juventus and Barcelona were willing to split his wages but could not reach a deal over that either.

Barcelona stuck with Pjanic as Juventus decides against his signing

The Italian giants were interested up until the final days but finally decided to end their pursuit. Goal report the decision came after winning the race for PSV’s Mohammed Ihattaren.

Pjanic knew his future at the Nou Camp was sealed once it was made official that Ronald Koeman was coming back to fulfill his last season as manager. The Dutchman rarely counted on Pjanic the season prior and looks to spend another season riding the bench unless something drastic happens.

Sevilla was also rumored to be interested in the 31-year-old but that deal also depends on Sevilla offloading a player first. Even then, the splitting of the wages could once again prevent a move from happening.

Pjanic’s intention was to return to Serie A and there were a handful of Italian sides contemplating his arrival.

But they waited too long as Fiorentina ended up signing Lucas Torreira on a loan from Arsenal, Juventus lost interest and Napoli never really made an effort to sign him.

He was on the bench over the weekend in the win against Getafe after being left out completely in the two games prior. But that had more to do with the fact Barca were without Pedri than anything else.

The two sides are stuck with each other as Pjanic will now have to wait until the winter transfer window to find a way out of the Catalan side.
