Besiktas have signed Miralem Pjanic from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal
By Zoheb Alam
In the recent summer window, Barcelona did manage to bring in quality names to their roster as they signed players like Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia. But at the same time, the club’s financial problems forced them to show the exit door to some of their star players including club legend Lionel Messi.
On Friday, the club officially confirmed that midfielder Miralem Pjanic has left for Besiktas on a season-long loan deal. The Bosnian international has left for the Turkish side and is soon expected to join his new teammates in Istanbul.
As per the new agreement, the midfielder will be on loan with his temporary side till June 30, 2022. The former Juventus man will be receiving remuneration of 2.7 million euros, with Besiktas agreeing to pay one-third of the player’s salary.

The 31-year-old joined Barca last summer on an exchange deal for Arthur Melo. So far, his journey at Camp Nou has been disappointing, to say the least. Last season, the midfielder could manage only 19 appearances in the league campaign, the majority of which came from the bench.
The Bosnian midfielder endured a frustrating time under manager Ronald Koeman as he was often asked to play second fiddle in the midfield department. Last month, there were murmurs that suggested that the midfielder was expected to make a return to Juventus but, however, there was no official interest from both parties to sanction this deal.
How will this move affect Barcelona?
Honestly, Barcelona won’t be too worried about the absence of Pjanic. Also, the Bosnian international was never going to receive a starting place on Koeman’s side and hence it was beneficial for both parties to opt for this loan deal.
Barcelona already have a flurry of options in their midfield department. The likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Phillipe Coutinho are all expected to play a big role in the centre of the park this term.
In an optimistic way, Pjanic could benefit from this move as he would now likely receive a starting role in the Besiktas side. For the Bosnian, this could be an excellent chance to retrieve his lost form and prove his worth to authorities in Camp Nou. If the 31-year-old is able to put up decent performances for the Black Eagles, chances are that he might find himself a starting spot in this Barca side next season.
