La Liga: Easy win for Barcelona at the Camp Nou as they beat Valencia
By Zoheb Alam
Barcelona had a convincing outing in their latest league fixture on Sunday as they were able to topple Valencia at the Camp Nou. Goals from Memphis Depay, Ansu Fati and Phillipe Coutinho were enough for the hosts to claim all three points against the Bats.
Despite playing at home turf, the Blaugrana outfit was expected to face stiff competition from the visiting side. From the very first minute of the whistle, Bordalas’ side looked threatening in their attacking half. In the opening five minutes of the game, the Catalans were handed a blow as Valencia left-back Jose Gaya opened the scoring his side, taking an early lead for the Los Che.
However, Barcelona responded quickly with an equalizer as Ansu Fati was set up by a slick pass by teammate Memphis Depay, which was smashed back into the net by the Spaniard to cancel the deficit.
After conceding early, Barca looked desperate to retrieve the lead as they made some dangerous runs into their attacking third. Valencia, on the other hand, were looking to find loopholes in the Catalan defense. They were spotted making some promising runs into the Catalan half but, were unable to find the back of the net thanks to some solid defending from Eric Garcia and Gerard Pique.
Thankfully, Barcelona were able to take back the lead just before the closure of the first half as they were awarded a spot-kick after Gaya brought down Fati in the box. Depay stepped up to take the penalty and he didn’t disappoint, slotting the ball back into the Valencia net to make it 2-1 in favor of the hosts.
The second half was more exciting as both sides were pushing for their next goal. There were nervous moments for the hosts as Bordalas’ men kept making inroads into the Barca defense.
In the dying moments of the game, Philippe Coutinho added a third for his side to ensure that his side end the game with all three points in their bag. For now, this victory against Valencia, sees Barcelona move up to seventh place in the league table.
Up next, the Blaugrana outfit are slated to return to the Champions League for their third group stage fixture against Dynamo Kyiv. Ronald Koeman’s side will be desperate for their first points of the UCL campaign, and also look to register their first win in Europe’s elite competition.
