Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, announced on Friday after the terrible defeat to Bayern Munich, that they would be significantly strengthening the squad in January, even though the finances are not in their favor. This means bringing in new players for the squad and especially bringing in players whom Xavi Hernandez himself has scouted. Right now, players such as Sergino Dest, Eric Garcia, and Memphis Depay, those who were brought in by Ronald Koeman are not doing so well and Xavi might want to inject some new players into the team. The former world cup winner is already sure about bringing a new attacker to replace or give competition to Depay, but they might need to bring in a new right-back as well now.

Reports from El Nacional suggests that current Barcelona wing-back, Dest, is no longer happy or confident at Barca and now that Koeman has been sacked, he would also like a move away from the club. One of the reasons that the report states for the potential move is that neither Laporta nor Xavi have been particularly impressed by the youngster and was looking to replace him anyway. This might be true since the new manager is seemingly more interested in players like Oscar Mingueza and Yusuf Demir. The Catalans have a host of players to choose from to play in that position and Dest has fallen down from the pecking list.

However, the player is still young and there is still some hope in the American. Since he is still young and there is potential in the player, the best thing for the Catalans would be to sell the player and earn some money to finance the move of a new forward. Xavi has already made Ferran Torres his main target so selling Dest could contribute to that transfer. According to sources, Dest wants to go to Bayern Munich and Barca has put a moderate price tag on him. The German giants could buy the right-back for around 30 million euros and that would help greatly in funding Torres’ move from Manchester City to Barcelona.
