Sergino Dest’s agent says Barcelona exit could be possible

Barcelona needs to sell players in order to make their rebuild successful. Not only do they have a lot of surplus players who are no longer of any use to the squad, but they also have players with huge salaries who are not performing anywhere near their expected levels. The Catalans have already expressed their intent on tackling the problem head-on by signing Ferran Torres however, there will be a lot more transfers upcoming in the summer transfer window. Joan Laporta has made it clear that he wishes to strengthen the squad in the summer and that he is not afraid of selling existing players for new ones.

One such underperforming player who has been in the talks for a transfer, for a long time, is Sergino Dest. The former Ajax man, came into the club last season after Ronald Koeman, Barca’s former manager, handpicked him for the team. At the time it seemed like a great buy, as he was young, fast and exactly the kind of wing-back who could emulate Jordi Alba’s playing style. However, it did not work out quite that well and it took him a long time to get settled down at the club. He was still a starter for the club and remained on the main team until Koeman was sacked.

Laporta and the new manager, Xavi Hernandez, were less impressed with his overall performance and thus he was dropped to the bench and allegedly put up on the transfer list. Rumors suggested that Bayern Munich was interested in the player however, nothing was made official. Now, however, his agent, Herr Bliemeister, stated in an interview with TZ that his client has a lot of potential suitors and Barca is not his final option. He said,

"“He has a lot of inquiries, even in the summer he had a lot of offers. But his coach at the time, Ronald Koeman, really wanted to keep him,”“We’ll see what happens now. One thing is clear: a player like Sergiño Dest is definitely not lacking in alternatives.”Source TZ"

While Dest is a young player, who has a lot of potential, Barca cannot gamble on his talents anymore. The club needs good, established players who can perform right now. They tried playing Dest in his natural position and even in the right-wing position; however, he was just not working out for the club.

Now, if the reports are true and there are offers being made for Sergino Dest, it is unlikely to see him continuing at Barca beyond this season and that would be good for the player, as well as for the club.
